The study of the martial arts is one of the few activities that brings together the energy of both the mind and the body. Our professionally trained and highly qualified instructors provide the ultimate martial arts learning experience to our students.
Practice of the Martial Arts at one of the Golden Knights Martial Arts locations will enable an individual, both children and adults, to focus and concentrate on achieving worthwhile goals and to meet life’s challenges with total confidence and perseverance.
Our organization offers a variety of martial arts programs for all ages. Take a look at our unique programs. More than any other sport, karate gives our children the chance to explore their innate powers. Marvel as they increase in strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and harmony. This is only the start. Physical skills act as a foundation for something much more important: the development of value skills, both mental and spiritual.
The Golden Knights Martial Arts has its foundation in the traditional karate styles but also incorporates a combination of techniques and principles from a variety of other martial arts styles, including judo, kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu, tae kwon do, and weapons, all of which provides our students with a well-balanced, “streetsmart” self-defense system.
Most styles of martial arts tend to focus on just individual area of self-defense. Combining the best of many styles into a blended system, gives Golden Knights students the advantage they need to protect themselves in virtually any situation.

Kids Karate (Primary Program)
Golden Knights Martial Arts is very well suited to children as well as adults. In our Kids Karate® program, children can quickly and easily master the basic techniques which in turn increases their motivation to continue and improve.
There are numerous benefits for children who study martial arts and the structured learning programme instils self-discipline, self-esteem and a level of commitment which can be beneficial in everyday life. Children are taught from the outset that karate is a defensive not offensive martial art and to only use their skills in self-defence.
When the body is exercised regularly it will develop stronger bones, tendons, ligaments and musculature than it would have done by being less active.
Kids Karate® helps to prepare children for life, through their training they are taught respect, self confidence and enhanced concentration.
We actively encourage parents and carers to come and watch lessons and we will gladly answer any questions that you have.
Boys and girls as young as five can get involved with and everyone of them will be a winner because karate allows children to reach for their own potential rather than directly competing against other children.
Here’s what parents say about Kids Karate®:

Martial Arts for Young Adults
Many teenagers have a genuine interest in the Martial Arts, probably because of the images they encounter on films and television. These images have a huge influence on them and through programs like Karateen, this attraction can be taken advantage of and channeled into positive outcomes.
The program, conceived by our Chief Instructor Gary MacRae 8th Dan Black Belt, is designed especially for teenagers and young adults and uses the martial arts style of Karate as the learning platform – hence our name Karateen.
The martial arts is highly regarded by Primary, Secondary and Tertiary educators as a way of developing positive attitudes within teenagers and young adults. Karateen is also seen as a valuable method for expressing youthful exuberance under controlled conditions, balancing both physical and psychological goals.
These goals are to develop and build respect, discipline, confidence, fellowship, co-ordination, balance, fitness & self-defense. Those people, who have had the opportunity to observe the Karateen program in action, have noted the many positive aspects that make the program unique.
Inter-personal skills are refined and developed, as those who participate develop friendships across different age groups. Our qualified, experienced adult instructors also provide strong role models to the students and help build their confidence and relationship skills.
A sense of responsibility is achieved when more experienced students of Karateen are given leadership roles to teach others new skills. We generate and encourage our students to set a good example to fellow students, as well as their parents, teachers and friends.
The manner in which the Karateen students are taught the complicated moves and techniques of the martial arts enhances their cognitive powers and sequential memory. This is vital for their intellectual development and reinforces a sense of pride and achievement.
The formula, for the success of Karateen, is to simply treat these young people as adults and to take advantage of the natural energy that they have and to creatively engross them in this novel but empowering activity. The emphasis is on ‘HAVING A GO’ and individual development, rather than focusing on success or failure as in many other competitive sports.
Both boys and girls gain equally from this program.
The positive approach and modeling of the instructors helps the young people to be more receptive to thoughts and ideas they may have rejected in the past, such as self discipline and appropriate behavior. It is common for parents, with teenagers training in our classes, to report the overall improvement of attitude and behavior of their children at home and at school.
Karateen students gradually develop their inner strengths. The confidence derived from this training teaches the young people that they can rely upon their personal integrity and convictions and can accept the responsibilities of maturation. Truly, confidence is a teenager’s first defense when facing the realities of life.
Some of the movements in Karateen, which are used for self defense, are often so graceful that (to the outsider) they can appear as much an art form as a sport. These movements are also good for mental discipline.
Both teenagers and adults who take up the martial arts find it a very important part of their life as it keeps them both physically and mentally fit.
Karateen is a multi-dimensional experience, and if those who become involved maintain an active interest, in time they will reap the benefits, physically, mentally and emotionally.
Short Self Defence Courses
Our courses are designed specifically geared for those people who are looking to learn simple, straightforward personal protection skills.
The Hit Back course provides an integrative approach to dealing with physical aggression and verbal threat. The unique progression of skills is intended to help you develop greater awareness and vigilance, hone observational and judgement skills, learn communication techniques to defuse potentially volatile situations, and acquire competency in physical self-defence tactics for use when preventative measures fail.
This particular progression of skills, referred to as the Triple ‘A’ Self Defence Method of Response, reflects the belief that prevention and postponement of physical aggression are critical self-defence skills. Hence the first three levels focus on strategies and skills to be implemented before the onset of physical aggression, that is, before you are grabbed, shoved, punched, or hit.
An important concept integrated into the Hit Back course and related to the notion of doing everything possible to postpone or prevent aggression is the ethic of least harm. This is the principle, written into law, that requires that we use only that amount of force that is reasonable and necessary to protect ourselves and others.
Another unique aspect of the Hit Back course is the emphasis on training mind and emotions as well as the body. Within each step, progressively more challenging and realistic drills help you to increase your ability to maintain presence of mind, to make accurate observations, to determine possible options and risks, and to select effective and appropriate choices for defence.
While the study of self-defence is serious subject, it need not necessarily be a grim or sombre experience. The instructors of our Hit Back course will encourage you to have fun and enjoy this confidence-building journey of self-discovery and empowerment!
